Chapter 3 – She who wished to be happy – Part 3

**Hi, will be changing Origa, [my] Father, [my] Mother, and [my] Brother to : Olga, Otou-sama, Okaa-sama and Onii-sama from here onwards ^^ Also this is a work in progress as you can see, just posting this and editting later as I finish the last parts. Enjoy! Sorry for the delay, I’ll no longer do any puzzles cause my mind is already being overheated as it is :v Editting is done!**

Being a child of a mage known to be the strongest of them all, it is only natural to expect the same path from him.

In fact, for one to be a talented person, one must be birthed from another talented person, as proven by blood lines. Unless they have reached a certain end for some reasons,

And it’s not like they don’t have the ability to try and keep producing a child, as they wished for it to be stronger than the last.

While the king took advantage of their wishes and instigated them more.

「 Eventually, after being pressured by the royal family, she* had to give birth to you…… She was still happy despite it all.」

*apparently あの子 is a term of endearment, and not actually a child in this case lol gomen, will be editting the last chapters after i actually finish this one

Okaa-sama’s body was terribly weak. Her lifeforce must have been decreased a lot after giving birth to me.

But if his daughter is still incompetent, then he would not want another one, was what Otou-sama had said.

However, the child that was born had an overflowing mana that broke their scales, and the intellect she has is unusual for her age―― Of course, the clan was overjoyed, and approached Okaa-sama with the intent for her to bear another one.

「If only you were a little bit more incompetent than that Guilford, we wouldn’t need him. We wouldn’t need another one too. You really are a troublesome child.」

「……I still have no idea why I took over instead of Onii-sama.」

As if wondering why I still did not understand, Otou-sama laughed.

「It’s simple, really. “The little sister has powers. So the brother must have the same ability, but has yet to awaken it.” Do you really not believe the elders will not have that line of thinking?」

However, Gil-sama just used his powers to feed himself, knowing he would not awaken the same powers as us. But because of my birth, Gil-sama’s poor but happy and carefree life has become twisted.

It really is my fault.

……No, this is what should happen in the original.

Everything is happening just as planned, to be【Olga】’s background story.

That’s why the story has gone haywire because of【 me 】. However, an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach has begun to make itself known to the point that I can no longer ignore it.

「Okaa-sama…… knew as well?」

It was all for Okaa-sama, is what he said.

But that gentle person did those things, even though she wished for my happiness. They used Gil-sama

To think they felt so burdened by Olga― by me― that he even used another child.

「It might not be her who told you, but you’ve already noticed right?」

Using and tormenting a little child just to prolong her life.

The Okaa-sama I saw in my memories, who always gives me a gentle smile, is being distorted.

The mother* who used to visit【me】, who smiles at me, who encourages me, and the mother who never showed her face in her last days, has her face now shrouded in fog, no longer visible to me.

Aah, in the end, Okaa-sama’s the same as them towards me too huh.

(*she switched from calling her Okaa-sama(my mom) to just calling her Hahaoya(a mother))

「You are all so selfish…」

Otou-sama chuckled silently, as if mocking the words coming from me and said “I don’t want to hear it from you, who has been living as she pleases”

Clenching my fists till they turn white, my eyelids heat up and the back of my throat becomes hot. However, the hateful words I want to say got stuck in the back of my throat and never came out.

And then suddenly, Otou-sama, who hasn’t uttered a single word, stood up and extinguished one of the candlesticks.

The light source we have is limited in this enclosed room, so just putting out one of them makes the room much darker.

Right now, I can’t even light one of those candlesticks by myself, so I wonder what he’s planning to do.

But before I could ask what he’s up to, a low voice slowly filled the room.

「Now that the sun has set, let’s get down to business.」

(to defeat, the huns–i’m sorry)

Business huh.

The real reason why Otou-sama even came to this place.

But based on the conversation earlier, I already understood what it’s about.

In any case, there is no good reason for why this person is visiting me now.

Because they are the kind of people who live their lives using others for their own sake.

What would he do if he heard that his daughter, who was no longer able to use magic, was being kept in captivity?

「For what reason did Keika guide you here? Is it to kill me?」

「There’s no way your little attendant could have done all of this by herself.」

Upon asking him in such a desperate voice, he mockingly said “You’re dumber than I thought.”.

Waving his finger and putting out another candlestick, he said that the surveillance in this dilapidated house is very strict.

As the lights in the room gradually dimmed, Otou-sama lowered his voice to talk, as if he was revealing a secret.

「Right now, this clan is divided between those who want you dead, and those who want to keep you alive. I got a request from one of them.」

How foolish. When the thought came that it was the faction who wanted me dead, a sneer appeared from my downcast face.

No matter how hard they try, the characters will never understand. That I am the villain, the hero’s counterpart.

Unlike the nameless ones, my death is already 【set】and the hero will always be the harbinger.

No matter what I do, I will survive, like what happened to the battlefield. Until the day Gil-sama slays me himself.

But father looked and smiled at me, and took the conversation in another direction

Your doctor has already made a diagnosis, and well, “you’ll never know unless you try” is what they’re thinking」

As I recall――”my vessel was beyond repair” was what the doctor had diagnosed.

Meaning, all my value and role as a sorcerer has been lost.

I can understand if they weren’t willing to believe the diagnosis and ask for a second opinion but―― “you’ll never know unless you try?”

With suspicions, I look up at Otou-sama with questions written on my face, however, he smiled sweetly and said in a low voice:

「They told me to stay here until tomorrow morning――you know what that means, right?」

A doctor’s diagnosis

Trying to see how everything will work out.

Those words from the caretakers

A remote and dilapidated place where no one goes.

Until tomorrow morning comes, no one will come here.

A room that is gradually getting darker.

A man, closing in.

「You can refuse all you want, however, do you think you can reject me now?」

A beautiful face that resembles my own, lips so charming that it makes resistance futile.

Those words, their meaning, is giving me goosebumps.

NCOVID-19

Amidst the panic and scare circling around the spread of the disease, remember to always wash your hands! Using only alcohol to clean your hands is not enough. Proper hand washing is still better! Eat healthy food rich in immune boosting properties like oranges and lemons. Get plenty of rest and make sure to be hydrated! Let’s get through this disease together and stay safe! Or else Origa might burn us to death for killing Gil with NCOVID or Atlas hitting us with trees and rain cause we made Origa sick.

Chapter 3 – She who wished to be happy

「“Weren’t you the clan master? What’s with the poor treatment you’re getting?”」

The tanned man stepped inside and sarcastically gave his remarks as he looked around the room. The mansion itself has little to no furnishing and that this place could be mistaken as a commoner’s house, this much is true. However, if you were to hide a high profiled person like me, using a dilapidated place as a hideout is the most optimal choice. But this is just a trifling matter.

「“What do you even want from me.”」

He is not the type to use Keika to confront me. He is also not the type to save his daughter from being imprisoned, rather, he is the type to laugh at his daughter if she becomes imprisoned. He also did not show any interest in me, nor has he shown any fatherly love towards me in the first place.

Being his wife and the King’s younger sister, my mother was shown respect and reverence by him, meanwhile, me and Gil-sama, who are his flesh and blood, was given the cold shoulder and ignored by him.

「TN: You don’t need a father like that, come to me Origa and I will hug you instead.」

As if trying to clear all of his doubts, my father muttered in a surprised tone.

「“If I’m not mistaken, the last time we saw each other was at her funeral….”」

「“That’s right”」

「“I was expecting it to change even a little, but I guess it didn’t.”」

I didn’t know what he meant, and I doubt father will answer any of my questions as he just sat down lost in his thoughts. Even though my guest is sitting comfortably, I couldn’t help myself but stand stiffly and face him sitting in front of me. Seeing me like this, he smiled and softly asked:

「“It’s been a while since we’ve been alone like this. Tell you what, since we didn’t have many chances to spend as a normal family, would you want to ask me for anything? Matters concerning the war, matters concerning your servant, or matters concerning how you are treated here. Ask and I will give it to you..”」

「“Any…thing..?”」

Assasination, kidnapping, ridicule.

His words always contain hidden meanings. If I were to analyze each and every word that comes out of his mouth, I’m afraid it would take an eternity for me to truly understand what his intentions are.

Him being here without the others noticing means he’s long been prepared to come to this remote place. His smiling face, his graceful demeanor, no matter how hard I stared at his unchanging expressions, I am unsure what his real intentions are. As If everything you want to know will be answered by him. But I doubt he’d go through all this trouble just to give me what I want.

「“But of course. I would do anything my sweet and only girl asks of me..”」

「“My brother….you don’t consider him as your child huh.”」

Regardless of how little they’ve seen each other, Gil-sama is no doubt his child as well.

He just shrugged and replied with an uncaring tone.

「“The Luzilles sure are cruel, throwing you out of the house like this. Besides, only a Luzille is capable of being my child.”」

Him being born and not belonging to this house――It’s entirely your fault as his father isn’t it? And with Gil-sama being forced to be a Luzille, he spent his childhood in misery, spending each day rejecting his new found family.

I have known how many times he hid himself just to let his tears fall, how many sleepless nights he had to endure because of his injuries, and how many times he wanted to run away from it all but couldn’t, just because he believed that father took him in because he needed him.

「“That really is….”」

「“Hm?”」

「“No….It’s nothing.”」

The words coming from father’s mouth truly are cruel but―― I don’t have the right to be angry at him. After all, this is how his character is 「set up」.

And it didn’t matter if you teach him correct morals and principles now, since he is already created as such. Just like a child, who only recognizes those who are significant in its life.

That’s why, everything he speaks of is not, in any way, far from how he is supposed to be.

Huh?…… But, if that’s the case, then why?

Then suddenly it struck me, doubts piling up in my mind with that simple thought: A contradiction.

Why would someone who cares so much about usefulness come and meet a useless mage like me?

With the same bronze colored eyes as my father’s, I glanced at him quietly

Father said he will answer all of my questions, regardless of what his real intentions are.

And regardless of what I will come to know about, the fact that Gil-sama is coming to kill me will never change.

If that’s the case, then everything else will be trivial――.

Chapter 2 – She who had betrayed -Part 3

I will be editing this chapter because there is a lot and I mean, a LOT of mistakes translating this from the original source and was too wordy (blame me and my lack of better judgement orz) , and shying away from the source material. Please bear with me, thanks!

“I brought you some food”

After a metallic “clang”, a woman steps inside the room, carrying an early dinner.

She looked at the man waiting behind her, with him locking the door behind them, and a scowl appearing on his face.

The man locked the door from the inside, pursed his lips and leaned against the door to watch over and make sure I didn’t run away.

The woman just pretends to not see what happened and continues to do her job in silence.

The meal served to me in silence is luxurious as usual. However, I have no one to share this meal with.

“Did something happen today?”

“Nothing that Olga-sama should be concerned about.”

Since the day I have been confined in this house, I don’t know how many times I’ve heard her immediate reply already.

The first few days I was confined, I had been asking around about what the clan’s standing were, about what’s been going on outside, about the tides of war, but all of these questions went unanswered.

They were probably given orders about not letting me take even a single step outside, nor give me any information I ask.

Some caretakers expressed their sympathies but did not give me the answers I needed, the next day however, they no longer appeared in this remote house.

After that, I just repeated my questions like a parrot, and no longer expected to receive a proper response.

I just moved and ate in silence until I finished my meal.

The caretaker earlier got her hand busy retrieving sheets, changing my dirty clothes and refilling my water, while the man kept eyeing my movements the whole time.

If I slow down my movements even a little bit, they would ask what’s wrong and check if the food is poisoned.

I found all those things bothersome so I just continued to eat slowly.

I don’t think I’ve eaten in this tense atmosphere since the days I was eating with Otou-sama.

As I was absentmindedly finishing my meal, the caretaker caught my attention with her strict-sounding voice.

“Now then, Olga-sama, please give me your hands.”

After covering my hands with her cold palms and absorbing some of my mana, the candlestick she was holding was lit up.

My current abilities are limited to me lighting up this mere candlestick, and even that already makes me feel dreadfully drained.

The tiny flame flickers as if to mock me, that this is all I can do now. Unable to use my own powers, nor accumulate much mana. A small speck of an existence that can be locked up and restrained easily in this small remote house.

//still editing here from this point onwards

“Tomorrow morning, I.. well- can I..” The caretaker stutters to find words. I can’t judge their expressions as they hide their faces from me, but it is obvious the man is glaring at her. Nevertheless, the man still speaks.

“Hey.” A single word. A disapproving face.

The caretaker closes her mouth hesitantly, cutting off the trail of words she wanted to speak with. I raise my head expecting another usual nonchalant reply from either of them, saying it was nothing to worry about, but I only find the man darting his sharp, reproachful glare from the silent woman to me, then turning his head away. The woman sighs heavily as she saw the man’s behaviour towards me, with a quick bow, she excuses herself from me as they turn their backs to leave.

After accompanying both of them out of the room, I decided to stare at their figures while the door closes in front of me. I hear them let out a muffling sigh of relief as they lock the massive doors from the other side. Seeing them off is indeed unnecessary, but the two of them are the closest source of information I have to what is happening outside of this cage. I am locked in this place for too long that my sense of time has become dull.

There are no windows in this room, I can only peek at the world beyond this cage through the thin slits of the towering, massive doors, or through the window panes in the hallway when I walk.

I have no clue on how long they can maintain the situation in the outside world by spouting lies. They can say that I, the head of the flame family is sick and recovering from severe injuries from war, but they cannot fool the people for long. They will start to question for the truth as the flow of time nears the end, by then the clan authorities will have to decide my fate before the people are aware of their plots.

I am the niece of the king, rightful Head of the House of Luzil, revered as the Infernal Princess. In accordance to the laws of my clan, should anyone wish to take my throne as what I have done to my Father at the age of 9, they have to kill me in the ceremonial rite.

However, if a lowly commoner decides to declare their wish to contest me, that fool will receive absolute objections from the royal family, it is only natural after all.

What gives the fool a right to command my house when royal blood does not course in their veins? On the other hand, the clan cannot simply allow a girl who no longer has powers to represent the Luzil House. To do so would overthrow the underlying laws we have abided for decades of aging time. The clan will have to amend the laws— factions will arise during amendments of the laws, thus disrupting the stability of the house. This concerns every mage in the clan, regardless of their prowess or social standing, whichever faction they choose will only serve to crumble the clan’s foundations.

“But, im not worried at all.” I thought.

No matter which faction or which path for the clan is chosen; No matter if their decisions come to tale in the hands of the historical Scribes; There will always be Gil-sama, right? I should not bother about the fate of my clan mages, but how this deviated story will branch and develop.

I should already be dead in that forest, but I miraculously woke up in a bed. This has enough proof that my existence has a role to fulfill. Surely, the story that I am leading astray is trying to correct itself to its original path, abiding to destiny. There is only one ending to this world, a world plotted with a constant and linear fate, as the endpoint is bound to happen no matter what. However due to my constant interference and deliberate foolishness, the story is now having extra twists and turns, but it won’t be long until it returns to the destined path.

I loved and love this story more than anyone else, cherished it, treasured it.

And because of that, no one can convince me that I won’t be the happiest girl alive now. Until everything comes to an end, I will live with anticipation, and embrace it with joy, without regrets.

That is why, Gil-sama–

Quickly, hurry up so I—

My attention trips upon a few knocks on the door, I raise my head to the source of the hollowing echoes. No one should be here at this time, as I should be left alone. The caretaker just left a while ago too. Did they perhaps leave something behind by accident?

“Who is it?” I bother to ask.

I wouldn’t be able to answer the door regardless. There are no knobs or handles from my side of the door. It is a one way entry with a locking mechanism on the other side. I know that asking for the person outside is a waste of effort, but it is a habit of mine ever since I got here.

A voice ever so crisp; ever so familiar, resounds from the other side–

“It’s been a while, Origa-sama.”

“Keika…” My voice hung in the air.

The crisp voice belongs to my aide who has not appeared before me ever since the day I emanated hostility at my rescuers. I just thought they didn’t allow anyone to approach me, but it turns out to be just the opposite.

“You-” My words are cut short for the second time. I can not find what I want to say to her.

Keika has to become the next master of my clan, taking over me. As she plunges herself into the new title, she declares she is willing to become the clan’s puppet. She will dance to the whims of the elders, and the clan can use her to waste. She is forced to step up to this responsibility due to my extinguished flames.

However, I can’t blame her if she decides to distance herself from me with spite. It was all there was between us in a mutual master-servant relationship, and nothing more.

Yet for her to show up in front of me, under the massive doors that binds me to this sickening cage, a cage that reminds me that I am weak, what is she trying to do? Is she here to condemn me? To scorn me with spite?

Given all her achievements so far, it’s only natural for her to blame me. I, who imitates the original 【Origa】, playing the persona of 【Origa】 obsessively,  and the person who tries to satisfy the desires that ‘Origa’ holds dearly with diligence, with devotion and with any means necessary. However, where has this brought me to? A princess who lost all of her powers in the process, disregarding the laws of action and consequences completely with her foolishness, as all of it came to this scene.

In the past, not a single elder had preached their objections with carrols of parrots and swallows, no one dared to defy me. After I could no longer be the seed, the catalyst, the warhorn of raging wars and blazing frontlines, their eyes no longer hold reverence, no longer tremble with fear, but only glazes with shades of unwavering contempt. It is when they look at me that I know without a hint of doubt, of their scrutiny on a princess who lost her powers.

Even though I know that whatever she can say, or will say, will not change anything because she is still a character of this story, it is still dreadful to hear her contempt face-to-face. Between us is just a single door. Behind these wooden slabs is the person who should be accompanying me all through my life, and whose voice I dread the most to hear.

“A lowly commoner begs for your audience.” However, contrary to my piling fears she speaks with an indifferent, apathetic tone.

At this moment, she should not be able to visit me as the clan authorities are restricting information on my end. Is someone else from the clan accompanying Keika? If that’s the case, the servants would announce their presence already.

Or do they actually want Keika to help me and intervene with my fate?

“–I cannot be with you at the moment. But take your time.” A small voice speaks to her outside.

Keika replies to the voice beyond the door. However that small voice didn’t sound like it was talking to me, rather it was speaking to someone else. The voice is indistinct unlike Keika’s crisp tone, even so, I could tell that it is a man talking.

I wonder what Keika is planning, coming here when the caretaker and invigilator is away, meanwhile bringing someone uninvolved. It won’t be strange if they are executed should my clan find out about this. Nevertheless, they are still here to find me.

Ah, I see. A sense of euphoria floods within me.

Did Keika bring Gil-sama along?

Before I could think of anything else, my powers have disappeared. And it has been a long time since I’ve seen him. Surely he must have heard all of my crimes from Atlas-sama and investigated them with his own eyes. Thus, convinced himself that―― his sister must be punished.

It is already determined in the 【script, and as expected in the 【story】, that Gil-sama will land upon this conclusion of his.

Right now, since my situation has a drastic change, it would be difficult for us to face each other in battle. This is why he asked Keika for help, so that he can come to this place, this cage.

The me who has killed so many, has become this war’s banner, the symbol of genocide, the one true evil of war and the reason of misdealings of countless nations.

I don’t know how the military will develop and unfold into, but I’m pretty sure that this war will come to an end with my head resting upon silver stakes and guillotine. Whatever people may feel, whatever the entire Luzille’s decision may be, killing someone like me is the only way to pacify everyone’s hatred.

With Gil-sama awakening his magical abilities, he would surely try and save his comrades from dangerous situations. ――As he becomes the hero who saves the world from the villain, I will act as the evil that must be culled in order for this country to progress. It is as ordered by the story, fated and destined.

That’s why–

I shall die here today.

The villain’s role shall finally end. The location of【Origa】’s death is a lot different from the original story but, regardless, her story will finally end.

The locks on the door reopens with a loud clunk.

My feelings about Keika who is beyond this door, the mages guarding the entrance, the king in the imperial capital and all of the mages living in this country–even about the future, I do not care about them anymore.

Because, Gil-sama’s is finally here to kill me.

Everything will be alright, I smile as I welcome them with joy, awaiting the people from beyond this door, wholeheartedly welcoming them but–

“Eh….?” I stop cold.

These aren’t the people who I imagined them to be.

“It’s been a while, Origa” The man speaks as the door reopens.

It is a man I let live at the age of 9, a man with hair aged to faded bronze yet ever so vibrant, like mine.

It was my father.

I look up and – Chapter 2 – The meaning of red is…

“I brought you someone you might like” said Ling Shan while dragging Mei-er outside her manor. He passed by a slave trader earlier and bought her three slaves to gift to her. Mei-er’s manor only has her wet nurse and a few maidservants for heavy labor since she didn’t like being served upon. Ling Shan thought since she is turning 11 this year, she has to have some maids to serve her. The boy he bought however looks like he has some potential in using martial arts. He could be her bodyguard in the future.

Mei-er was dragged to Ling Shan’s manor, and there she saw three slaves bowing down.

“Is this the thing I’m supposed to like? You know I don’t like being waited on cousin.”

“You have to have them, you’ll be reaching the age of marriage soon and I don’t want you to be alone in another’s family with no way to fend for yourself.”

“You act as if you would let some bastard marry me.”

“I won’t, but it’s necessary for you to have them.”

Mei-er had no choice but to accept them. The first maid she saw looks timid and easily scared. She has a tanned complexion but it didn’t affect her timid nature. She looks so ordinary that you won’t be able to spot her in a crowd. The next maid looked the same but with a lighter complexion. She looked tough because her eyebrows are bushy and pointed in the end, making her look like someone who would beat someone up. The last one was a boy who looked cold and indifferent, she was a bit intimidated but she wasn’t scared of him. His complexion was sickly pale but his physique says otherwise. He stands tall as if he was from a military background. His looks cute right now but she bets he will be handsome in the future. Mei-er unconsciously blushed.

“So did you like them? I bought the boy since I imagine him being your bodyguard in the future.” With his fingers on his chin while looking at the slaves he bought, he asked Mei-er.

“I guess I do. Thank you for the gift cousin Ling Shan. I would like to take them to my courtyard so I can name them.” And so, Mei-er left to her courtyard with her newly assigned servants.

Upon returning, she named her new servants. Xiao Yi for the timid girl, Xiao Er for the tough looking girl and Xiao Qi for the boy. She called her wetnurse so she could assign the work for Yi and Er, while Xiao Qi was sent to his cousin for training.

After being with her new servants almost everyday, save for Xiao Qi, she felt like it wasn’t half bad having them around. She could talk to them carelessly and share her art without criticism. She also found out that Yi is actually the tough one while Er is the timid one. They were sisters and their personality is different from their looks. She was so shocked when she once saw Er crying while Yi scolding her for dropping the vase.

Xiao Qi on the other hand, is not cold and intimidating at all! He was like a lost little puppy that needed her guidance all the way. One time, Xiao Qi wanted to wash his whole bed after he accidentally spilled dirt from a potted plant on it. Later Mei-er saw her wetnurse scolding Xiao Qi about it. She didn’t have the heart to keep on seeing him like that so she intervened. He also kept on calling her “my lady” which ultimately made her blush whenever he calls her.

It took Mei-er some time to adjust and just stayed inside the manor glumly cause of her misreading their looks.

—-

One night, Mei-er was restless and could not fall asleep so she went out her room and lied down on the grass in front of her manor while staring at the moon. It has been a while since she arrived in this place, she didn’t know why she was reborn in this place as an infant. In her past life, she was a webtoon artist. She liked drawing and painting from a young age and it didn’t change in her rebirth. Sure her works of art lacks mastery but she likes making art all the same. While contemplating, Xiao Qi sat beside her.

“What are you doing this late my lady?”

She looked at him, then back at the moon. “Have you ever felt like you just wanted to stare at the sky, admire the moon, admire the stars and praise the gods who created them?”

Xiao Qi just looked at her and stared up at the sky as well. “I didn’t have time to look at the sky my lady, but now that you mention it, it looks beautiful and bright. The stars look like the moon’s tears.”

She didn’t know why, but Xiao Qi looked so lonely after saying that. So she sat up and held Xiao Qi’s hand. Xiao Qi froze and tried to take his hand away but Mei-er just held it tighter.

“Xiao Qi, would you like to see the sky with me again?” Xiao Qi tried to shake off her hand but when he heard her words, he just stared at her. “My lady, please observe etiquette between men and women.” he said while lowering his head, blushing.

“So it’s a no?” Mei-er looked down pitifully, but she still didn’t let go of Xiao Qi’s hand. Xiao Qi on the other hand is being flustered about his hand and his lady’s expression. She looks like she’s going to cry! Ah! What to do?!

“O-okay, I agree my lady! I will see the sky with you again!” Mei-er’s face perked up after hearing that. She straightened her pose and acted refined and poised. She lets go of Xiao Qi’s hand and smiled brightly at him.

“I like you Xiao Qi. You’re really kind, but sometimes there’s isolation and sadness behind your eyes. I hope I can enter your world as well and be able to make it livelier. I hope you don’t mind your lady being like this”

Xiao Qi became flustered and lowered his head. “I am but your servant my lady. I dare not pull you in my world, my world is only dull. I dare not covet the sun while wishing the moon freedom.”

Mei-er smiled thoughtfully at him and patted his head. “You are now part of my world. I want to do everything that can make the people in my world happy. You, Xiao Yi, Xiao Er, cousin Ling Shan, even wet nurse who only nags at me. I want every one of you to be happy.” Her smile brings life to his unmentionable emotions. His heart feels warm and bright, like the sun. Ah. Xiao Qi wishes that he can protect her smile from everything that can harm it.

One sunny day, Mei-er suddenly had the urge to paint again, so she asked his cousin Ling Shan to allow her to go outside. Ling Shan agreed, but on the basis that Xiao Qi and his trusted guard Xiao Yan to go with her. Once outside the manor, she asked the carriage driver to go to the lake on the outskirts of town. Ling Shan’s influence reached up to the next town so she wasn’t worried about troubles coming her way.

She sat down under the tree and started painting. Meanwhile Xiao Qi asked Xiao Yan to train him some more. Mei-er just kept painting but she suddenly gasped out loud. When both Xiao Qi and Xiao Yan came over, she just said a bug slid down her canvas and was surprised. After that, the two guards continued training not far from her.

“That was a surprise.” Mei-er murmured. On her right hand, she was holding a rose bloom, and on her left hand is a wound that looks eerily like a rose. “I didn’t know I could…”

After spending some more time painting, Xiao Qi appreached Mei-er and asked what she was painting.

“Look and see, I tried to paint the river scene.”

Xiao Qi saw in her canvas a person playing the flute on top of a tree while overlooking the exact river scene before them, the only difference is the fields are covered in red flower blooms. The flutist himself is just wearing a plain white and pink robe while his hair sways in the wind. The sky is clear with some birds flying in the background. Some flower petals fly around the canvas that the painting looks lifelike.

“It’s beautiful my lady. I like how the flower petals blend beautifully in the canvas, giving the flutist a sense of awe. But, what are these flowers called? I don’t think I have seen them before.”

“Hm? Oh, they are called roses. Roses have different colors, and different colors mean other things.”

“What does the red rose mean my lady?”

Mei-er blushes as she tries to keep her calm. After a brief moment of silence, she smiles and opens her mouth.

“Love”

Day passed quickly and who would have thought, a year had gone by. Today is the day Ling Shan brought in Xiao Yi, Xiao Er and Xiao Qi so Mei-er wanted to do something for this day. She didn’t tell her servants what the occasion today is so they were all confused as to what their mistress ordered them to do. She asked them to prepare a feast, some poppers, some fireworks! The servants were excited for the event, albeit clueless about what it is for.

Xiao Qi saw Mei-er holding up a potted plant and hurriedly asked her to put it down and scolded her for doing it by herself. She on the other hand, scolded back and asked who the lady was and who the servant was, so Xiao Qi had no choice but to assist her as she would not fall down.

After a year in the manor, Xiao Qi learned a lot of things that he never thought he needed. Like washing the covers instead of the bed itself, sunning the books to prevent molds, insulating the room using cotton instead of just shivering in the cold with a blanket on and so on. Thinking about it, Xiao Qi was indeed a clueless brat, but now, he could match the wet nurse when it comes to chiding and serving her lady.

“My lady, where would you want to hang this painting? Xiao Qi held out a painting containing a swhite swallow flying over a rice field while farmers look up to the sky.

“I’ll do it myself later, just leave it there for now.” Mei-er said while holding cups and plates while making her way to the prepared table. Various dishes and pastries are lined up, colorful candies and snacks paint the dinner table a sense of playfulness and childlike fun. After setting everything up, she called for Ling Shan and the whole manor’s servants. She asked them to sit down at the table, but others looked at each other and hesitantly did not sit down.

“This manor does not discriminate between servants and masters, you all know that. As long as you do no harm to us, as long as you do not betray us, as long as you know the manor’s bottom line, we will treat you like family.” Ling Shan stood up and smiled at the servants. Hearing his words, the servants teared up and thanked him wholeheartedly. They all sat down and waited for Mei-er.

Mei-er stood up and held out a cup. “I thank everyone for coming today. Thank you everyone for tirelessly serving us cousins. For treating us like family. My cousin and I do not discriminate between servants and masters. Because if there are no servants around, me and my cousin would probably end up destroying the whole manor.” the servants remembered the time when their young master Lin Shang accidentally burned the kitchen for trying to cook porridge when Mei-er was sick, and everybody laughed.

“Today, I would like to thank everyone for their hard work. In addition to that, I would like to thank Xiao Yi, Xiao Er and Xiao Qi for coming to our manor and being a part of our family. It’s been a year since and Xiao Yi no longer bickers with the outsiders because of bumping into her.”  Everyone was surprised. So it has been a year already huh?

Xiao Yi Blushes when she hears that and Xiao Er laughs at her, in turn she is glared at back.

“Xiao Er no longer flees whenever she breaks a vase nor does she even break them anymore!” Xiao Yi blushes and laughs awkwardly, but smiles gratefully towards Mei-er.

“And…” Mei-er blushes as she looks at Xiao Qi. “Xiao Qi no longer looks lonely and solitary.” She smiles warmly as Xiao Qi stiffens, but soon laughs at her sincerely. After her speech, everyone ate happily and forgot their status for a while, as they mingle with each other without care. Ah, if only everyday is like this, then life would be so wonderful to live in.

I look up and – Chapter 1 – Crimson Feelings

Hello! this is Yuu and I’m pleased to show you my original work! There’s still 2 chapters out but I want to know what your thoughts are about it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did when writing it!

In a dark alley where death looms about, a girl is pitifully slouched down as she weeps uncontrollably. By her side were two girls lying side by side in a pool of blood. And in front of her was a boy in the same condition.

“Don’t cry my lady, it’s not your fault.”

The boy weakly said. Blood was flowing from his mouth, and tears filled his eyes as he tries to comfort the young girl.

“Xiao Qi…Xiao Qi..Xiao Qi…” Cried the girl in between sobs. Her face painted with tears and blood. She grasped the boy’s hand tightly as she weeps continuously.

Rain started to pour and the road is slowly washed away of blood and grime, wetting the residents outside their homes and making the alley more deathly.

“********…I’m sorry” the girl freezes by the words and her sobbing abruptly stops, at the same time, the boy’s breathes his last. Time seemed to stop for the girl as reality dawns upon her. Biting her lower lip, she forced herself not to go on another bout of weeps and just looked down the ground.

Suddenly, a man in his mid-thirties approached the devastated girl. Surprisingly, as if being enveloped in an invisible veil, the man isn’t being wet by the pouring rain.

“Hm?” Hums the man. Surveying the area where the four people’s fate is unknown, he wryly smiles and crouched down to the girl. “It seems like….” His voice being obscured by the pouring rain, the young girl looked up at him and muttered the words “How did you…” The man laughs softly and stood up. He gave the girl a piece of paper and a brush. “Do what you must, leave the rest to me.” The girl frantically writes something in the piece of paper, then suddenly…..

“Cousin Ling, I love you. I’ve loved you since we were little up till now. I love everything about you. Please marry me!” A girl in pale pink dress shouted at Ling Shan, confessing her love. Her skin soft and white, her cheeks dyed pink from either embarrassment or determination, her natural cherry pink lips moist from her teeth biting from them. Her hair tied up in two buns with the ends free flowing on her back. She didn’t wear anything extravagant on her hair, just two ribbons holding her buns.

“Mei-er..” Ling Shan, whose eyebrows are furrowed, looked troubled at his younger cousin. He is wearing a simple pale green robe with white accents. His eyes are arched up like a phoenix’s, with a mole near his right eye. His cherry lips are beautiful to look at and tempting to bite at. His hair is tied up high making him look scholarly yet refined. He sighs deeply and answered his little cousin’s confession.

“I’m glad that you love me Mei-er, I appreciate what you have said. I hope I don’t hurt you, but unfortunately, I don’t have feelings like that for you. I can only see you as my younger sister.”

“Kuh…” Winced Mei-er. “I didn’t know being rejected was this painful.”

Ling Shan was stunned by her reaction. He almost thought that she became crazy after her rejection. But seeing as she doesn’t look affected too much, he decided to lighten up the mood.

“Haha, I’m really sorry my dear sweet cousin. I could never imagine myself having a family with you.”

“Gah! Stop! Stop already!” Mei-er dramatically held her ears and crouched down, as if being hit by stones. “Sheesh cousin Ling, you have to be very gentle when rejecting others you know.”

“Hahaha, if I go the gentle route, people will just misunderstand. It’s better to not give them hope.” Ling Shan pulled his cousin up and put his arm around her shoulders. “You sure have guts I can give you that. Let’s go home, I have some business to attend to.”

“Then cousin Ling, now that you’ve rejected me, can I paint you?”

“Of course, but after I finish the matters at home.”

After going home, Mei-er was scolded by her wet nurse for coming back late, then told her to go bathe before having dinner. The manor she lives in is surrounded by peach blossom trees that when they bloom, the scent travels inside, calming the atmosphere and making it worth relaxing. Mei-er had always loved to paint so her room is filled with brushes and paint dyes. Her latest work, “Over the Sunrise” features a silhouette of a young girl sitting on a hill, gazing at the sunrise with the town as her backdrop. Her work isn’t as refined as the masters, but she enjoys painting so much that she doesn’t mind. Some of her works are also asked by her cousin Ling to be hanged on his room as well.

Mei-er lived in Ling Shan’s manor because her parents died at a young age. His father, Xiao Xing Ze, is Ling Shan’s uncle. Before Mei-er was born, Ling Shan was adored by his uncle. Even thinking of kidnapping him to become his son, and that made his brother beat him up numerous times. When Bai Wu Qing got pregnant with Mei-er, he no longer bothered Ling Shan, which made the latter a bit lonely. After both of them died together with his father, Ling Shan sworn to take care of Mei-er, even taking care of her dowry and marriage.

After public matters are done, Ling Shan went to Mei-er’s manor for her request.

“Cousin Ling! I thought you would never come.” Mei-er pouted her cheeks, which Ling shan poked for fun.

“Mei-er, when did I ever lie to you?”

“I don’t know, maybe that time you said you’d buy me candy but instead bought me the candy stall.”

“You said you wanted to try selling candies someday, so I bought you the cart to start with.”

“Ugh. Or that time you said you wouldn’t force me to bathe, but you dunked me in the pool anyway”

“You were itching badly so I had no choice but to help you get rid of the itch. Cold water is known for-”

“Ah enough enough. This is my manor, so you have to follow my rules. You have to follow what I instruct you to do in my painting!” Mei-er huffs irritatedly.

“Alright alright, what does my little cousin want?”

“Strip.”

“????” Ling Shan was dumbfounded. He held his temple and patiently said “I can’t strip naked, can I at least keep my trousers?”

“What are you talking about? You would need to wear this!” Mei-er showed a red robe embroidered with a snake and an apple. …..It looked like the outfit worn by those brothel workers.

“…..Where did you get this?”

“No questions, just wear it!” Mei-er said, her eyes looking moist, as if she would cry if he were to say another word.

“….” not having any choice, he changed into the robe, while the snake embroidered in it looked at him mockingly.

Indeed, the robe looked like it was made for seduction. The robe is intentionally oversized, giving the feeling of laziness. Ling Shan had to hold the arm area together to keep them from falling and revealing more of his body. But instead of covering himself, it just looked like he was a man ravaged by wolves, cunning, hungry and lustful wolves….. The chest area is slightly open, as if tempting those who look to open it. The leg area is also open, revealing the scars on his white thighs. The scars didn’t taint the entire picture, rather it added to the allure Ling Shan was giving. His face is red as beets and his breathing is unstable, either from embarrassment or the mysterious feeling creeping up from his chest.

“Mei-er isn’t this too much?”

“No buts! I will paint now, so just stand there like that.” And Mei-er just ignored him, and started to paint.

Seconds felt like minutes and minutes felt like hours. Ling Shan was so embarrassed that he could not keep still, allowing Mei-er to come and throw one of her brushes to him so he doesn’t move a lot. Finally, after two hours, the painting is finished and Ling Shan hurriedly changed back to his old clothing.

Mei-er let the canvas dry and cleaned up the place. After changing, Ling Shan went back to Mei-er’s room and asked to see the painting. He was stupefied to see that even though he thought he looked embarrassed wearing those robes, the painting begs to differ. In it, he looks like he was a lover who had lost his love, weeping under the moonlight while hugging his shoulders. His cheeks were flushed, not from embarrassment but from the tears he had shed. The robes in the painting looked desolate even though they were red and lively. It gave him the feeling of pain and loneliness one would experience from loss. The backdrop is that of a forest, glowing cold in the night with the crescent moon enveloped in clouds.

“I want to call it…. Crimson Feelings. How about it cousin Ling?

Ling Shan was still staring at the painting and looked at her. Is this what she felt when he rejected her?

“I know what you’re thinking. Yes, this is what I felt when you rejected me. I use what I feel as fuel to create pieces like this. It’s fun and at the same time, I feel better after making it.”

Ling Shan was silently contemplating all of the pieces she created that are in his hands. One was called Fragrant Desert where a peach blossom tree blows over a sea of sand, layering the sand with blossoms while the sky is tinted in orange and red, showing her innermost emotions being masked by the gentle emotions while hiding her negative ones. and another was Moonlit Demise that she created right after he parents died. It’s a piece where a young woman was kneeling while holding her hands up to the moonlit sky while her hands seemingly turn into dust, showing her loneliness at being left alone by her parents. He just realized that all of her pieces were based on her life story.

“Mm. Is that so? I guess your emotions are used so each and every one of your work feels lifelike. You should enjoy creating more pieces. I will let you paint whatever you desire, just say it.”

“Thank you, cousin Ling.”

The moonlit sky show traces of stars and clouds. While the two people inside the manor face their own emotions and desires.

Chapter 2 – She who had betrayed -Part 2

With his brown eyes narrowing in amusement, the man closed the small distance between them and bent down to lift her chin and brutally flicked it with his toes, drawing blood.

The skin on her chin was gouged out from the strength he used, with the wound vigorously dripping blood to the floor without stopping.

“What benefits will I get if I accept your request?”

Even with the itch and pain she feels from the wound she has been given, the woman doesn’t divert her eyes away from the warm-looking bronze-colored eyes staring down at her.

Those eyes, she could feel the vast contrast between how those eyes look like and how it feels to be stared at by them. But at the same time, as she stares back at those pair of eyes, she could see inside the similarities between the two of them

That person, as well as her master, the both of them seemed alike, by being indifferent to each other.

Therefore, the man in front of her surely will not bear any anger towards the deeds she had committed in the past.

“You know, since no one cares about you, I can just kill you in this place. Just think, you don’t have anyone to go back to, you don’t have anyone to dedicate your heart to. You know why? Because you’ve betrayed them.”

Each word that he spoke is like an arrow that slowly pierces through her heart.

But she did not feel any anger rising up from her, instead just making her waver. Since everything that he said is all true.

“…..I understand”

No matter what sins she has committed, no matter who despised her, no matter who envies her, she was still happy because that person still cared about her.

But all of that is just her imagination isn’t it?

Because just like what this man had said, that person will never care about her anymore, nor will that person trust her anymore. Indeed, if she were to die in this place then—

“I don’t mind. Please do what you like with me.”

Cruelty is painted in the eyes staring closely at her, but she didn’t break off their eye contact. As her words spill from her mouth, her tone comes off as a bluff as her real intention lie hidden behind them.

No matter how ugly or silly the words she uses to deceive this man, it can never mask her heart’s desire and the intentions she has within.  But for the sake of her selfish and arrogant wish, she can only draw this hand right now.

“I lay my life in your hands. My life and death will be yours to decide. I will taint my own hands for your sake. All of me, my everything, my future; I will give them all to you. So please… Please lend me your strength.”

“….”

She issued a challenging glare towards him as she speaks her vow breathlessly. With each and every word she spill, he silently listens as they continue to stare in each other’s eyes.

Her second vow was spoken just like that. Even though these words are not worth believing, she still insists on speaking them out loud as this is the only way she could convey her wishes towards this person.

“I beg you”

Upon seeing that she no longer wishes to say anything else, he slightly pauses and breathes out a deep sigh. He gazes up at a portrait of a blonde girl hanging on the wall and as if giving up, spoke in a careless tone.

“Since you have come so far, I will not let your efforts be in vain but… Well, whatever. I have a promise I must keep. What do you want me to do?”

Surely, her master will never forgive her now. Therefore no matter how alone she is, no matter how lonely she is, no matter how sorrowful she becomes, she cannot abandon this person whom she clung to right now. Therefore, in order for desires to be fulfilled, she decided to give him her whole hearted devotion. She will loathe everything that will stand in the way of her desires.

Since the woman finally had no way to turn back now, she might as well just show a joyful face with those traitorous words of hers.

“I want you to, with your own hands, to eliminate the present head of the Luzille clan.”

This second betrayal of hers, will be her life’s last betrayal.
